Spring Board Meeting Held in Conjunction with ARCI

6/29/2007 -
As is custom, the Winners Federation Inc. held its spring meeting in conjunction with the 2007 meeting of the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI). This year’s meetings were held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in Teton Village. The looming mountains and sprawling ranges stimulated some lively conversations about the racing industry. Aside from contentedly grazing horses, most attendees saw elk and buffalo, and a few even saw bear cubs.
Peggy Goetsch (President), Wesley Jones (Secretary), and Karin Opacich (Treasurer) presented a panel on health issues and programs for people involved in the racing industry for participants in the ARCI meeting. Debuting at the meeting were the new Winners Federation public service announcements featuring Jerry Bailey. The attending Board members met on

April 25th with others joining by conference call. Before the Annual ARCI Awards Banquet, all the generously donated silent auction items were displayed in the hotel lobby. Among the items this year was a hand crafted acoustic guitar made by 2004 National Heritage Fellowship recipient, Milan Opacich. The array of items included a Kennedy Space Center VIP shuttle launch and tour, weekend packages, books on racing legends, equine art, and even a Carnaval Barbie from our racing friends from Trinidad! Congratulations and our gratitude to Mike Hoffman whose winning bids earned him the guitar and several other items. This year’s auction yielded nearly $3500 for the Winners Federation.
